How old do I have to be to audition for the Garden State Dance
Festival?
We select GSDF dancers on the basis of dance ability, not age. We
strongly suggest an intermediate or above skill level for the
audition.
Can I audition for just one type of dance?
Absolutely! We welcome dancers to audition for
one or all types of dance at an open audition.
How much does it cost to audition?
There is no fee for GSDF
auditions.
What can I expect at the audition?
Participants
complete a registration form, receive a registration number and have
a photo taken. The Artistic Director will conduct a brief meeting
at the beginning of the audition. The Garden State Dance Festival
conducts cold auditions. Dancers are shown a dance combination and
selected based on their ability to perform. Dancers may also be
asked to improvise. Dancers invited to participate in the show will
have their names and registration number posted on the GSDF website
a few days following an audition. Dance shoes will not be
provided. Dancers are encouraged to arrive early. The auditions
usually last 2-1/2 hours but may take longer depending on the number
of participants.
Are dance companies considered for the Garden
State Dance Festival?
We accept applications for emerging
artists/companies in contemporary ballet, jazz, hip hop, or tap.

What about rehearsals?
Evening performance
rehearsals: Garden State Dance Festival rehearsals are scheduled
during Saturdays and Sundays in early January until the show. Rehearsals are per dance and approximately 2 hours per
rehearsal. Rehearsal schedules may change based on the progress of
the dance. Production Week has rehearsals every evening. Production
week rehearsals are held on stage at the performance location
usually Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday 6:00 PM – 10:30 PM. Final dress
rehearsal Thursday 6:00 PM – 10:30 PM. All rehearsals are posted on
the website. The schedules are subject to change and website
postings are updated on the website as soon as possible. Note:
Because the Dance Festival is going on the road in 2008 we
anticipate production week schedule changes from what was described
above.
When are the performances?
The 2008 performances: Friday April 25th & Saturday
April 26th in Philadelphia and Friday May 2nd & Saturday May 3rd in
Collingswood, NJ. Show times to be announced.
